We haven't kept up with this blog much in the past. From now on, Will and I are going to try to post on here at least weekly. Overall, we're trying to be more communicative with our audience. That includes Facebook and Twitter also.

So we wrapped up "BlackGuard vs. The Goonz" about two months ago. Since then, we've posted a few promotional images for the next chapter of BlackGuard, currently titled "The Hero Plot Trial". The ORIGINAL plan was to start that chapter this month.

Entry Number Seven: Krillin

Quite possibly the most popular sidekick in all anime, my main man Krillin! When I first stumbled upon the world of Dragonball Z as a teenager, I was simply mindblown by the epic fights, the power ups, the hair and... the fact that the heroes wore baggy pants, lol. But, amidst all of the saiyan action, the character that I really connected with was Krillin. ESPECIALLY in the Saiyan saga, which is probably when I liked him the most. Krillin held his own during that storyline, and I rooted for him the entire time. And it would be one of the last times in the series where he could stand with the big dogs before eventually becoming the sacrificial lamb in damn near every other story arc.

Entry Number Six: Matt Hardy, Lita and Jeff Hardy aka Team Xtreme

Those who know me, KNOW that I'm a wrestling mark (geek). I'd been watching wrestling since I was a kid, but to be honest, for the longest time, I just watched it casually on weekends. And as I grew older, I kinda fell out of it for a while. But then WWE's "Attitude Era" kicked in. Suddenly, the wrestlers were no longer portraying cartoon characters. They were portraying real people. And while most people were into the main event guys like Stone Cold and The Rock, I connected with The Hardy Boyz and Lita. I was in my teens by time I first saw Team Xtreme in action, and the first thing that caught my eye about them was that they didn't come to the ring in those silly tights that the other guys wore. Much how I had grown tired of superheroes in tights, I was kinda done with looking at grown men in their draws. So seeing Matt and Jeff come to the ring in regular clothes was the coolest thing to me. They were also smaller than the other wrestlers, which I also connected with. Plus they were brothers. REAL brothers from the Carolinas, just like me and my bro! I just thought it was so cool that two brothers went on a journey together... and made it TOGETHER. I remember thinking to myself, "It'd be so cool if my bro and I can accomplish our goals as a duo like Matt and Jeff." Corny? Maybe, but he and I are kinda doing that now, lol.

All sibling similarities aside, The Hardys were the first wrestlers I really cheered for, and booed for when they lost their titles. Though I know it's scripted, to me, their wins and losses were REAL. And Lita.......... my my my...... Lita was the first female in wrestling I had the hots for. A tomboy. A SEXY tomboy that could put on a DOPE match. Now that I think about it, Lita was my first favorite female wrestler as well.

I can't say enough about the influence these guys had on me. My artist name, Suicidal Assassin. The hardys with the hand guns. Get it? *wink*

Also, from the Hardys, I gained my life's motto: "Exist To Inspire".

Entry Number Five: Huey Freeman

Where would I be without having been introduced to Huey Freeman...
"The Boondocks", both the animated series and comic strip, played a HUGE part in the development of my art. Aaron McGruder's comic strip was the first drawing of black characters in a comic that didn't look either boring, cliche, or silly to me. They looked COOL. And Huey's fro was the epitome of "cool" to me. Though I love Huey as the voice of reason in the cartoon, and his well executed fight sequences, I often miss the Huey from the comic strips: angry, loud and just plain rude. I think the most of this version of Huey we see in the cartoon is in the episode where Huey directs the school Christmas play.

Entry Number Four: Wolverine

Who didn't like Wolverine when they were a kid? From the moment I saw him scale a sentinel with his claws and yell "THIS ONE'S FOR YOOUUUU, MORPH!", I wanted to be Wolverine. I think the 90's cartoon Wolverine is still my fave version of him for a couple reasons. One: He wasn't the star of the show. Yes, he was easily the most popular, but the story didn't revolve around him. And two: He actually looked old. I'm tired of writers and artists trying to make this grizzly dude a sex symbol. To me, the perfect Logan is short, older looking, and the last guy you'd wanna see your sister bring home for Thanksgiving.

P.S. In the Capcom games, Wolverine's attack "Berseker Barrage!" sounds like he yells "It's in the garage!" :D

Entry Number Three: Shawn Michaels

By far, my all time fave in ring performer, HBK did it all: high flying, technical wrestling, brawling, great promos, and also, dude is hella funny! Shawn Michaels played a big part in me getting BACK into wrestling, due to his triple threat match with Triple H and Chris Benoit at Wrestlemania 20, a match that is quite possibly my all time fave match. But hell, even when he returned at last year's Wrestlemania to referee Triple H and Undertaker's Hell In A Cell match, he MADE that match a classic just by his reactions. He damn near stole the show as a referee!!! THAT'S showmanship right there! It's like no matter what Shawn did in the ring, or how many times you saw him do it, it was always entertaining.

However, I also respect Shawn Michaels for not only accepting God into his life in his later years, but for also NOT hiding that side of his life, and even forging that into his TV character's persona. He proudly wears his shield.

Plus, let's be real, Sweet Chin Music is the sickest finishing move of all time, yo.

Entry Number Two: Spider-Man

I get this dude. At first glance, he's not much to look at. In fact, he's pretty silly looking, but, the dude has a good heart. Kinda like myself :)

Though the writers drag this into to the ground, his motto of "With great power, comes great responsibility" really hits home. While recording hip hop music, I'm often challenged by finding ways to rhyme my words without being offensively vulgar. Though I have the ability to grab a mic and say things like "f--k you", as I got older, I realized the responsibility that comes with being a speaker, and the power that comes with that. That's not to say I won't drop an "F" bomb here or there in my rhymes (much how Spidey won't pull punches while fighting villians, but, I try not to abuse my ability to rhyme and speak, much how Spidey tries not abuse his powers while using them to help others.

All that, plus his costume is really fun to draw and play with :)

Entry number one: Spike Spiegel

I figured, why not start this series off with my fave character from my all time favorite T.V. show. At first, I simply liked Spike cause he had cool fight scenes and knew martial arts. At the time I was introduced to Cowboy Bebop, I was STILL in my DBZ phase, so all I really wanted to see was dope animated fight scenes. But, the more I watched the show, the more I began to connect with Spike's philosophy of life (which is based off of Bushido). That philosophy being that life itself is a dream, and that death is the moment when we wake up from that dream. That truly connected with me. Combine that with the fact that he's just so damn cool. He hardly ever freaks out, he just adapts to the situation and handles it. People often ask why I'm so calm all the time..........it's cause I wanna be like Spike :)

Update: The Great Purging Returns This Year

If you've been following us for a while, you have probably seen us mention The Great Purging, or TGP, from time to time. If you go to our archive page, you can even see some of the (very) old TGP strips we did years ago.

The Great Purging is actually older than BlackGuard. It's the first idea for a webcomic we ever came up with. Unlike BlackGuard, TGP is more about single page gags instead of an ongoing storyline.

We've teased bringing the crew back at least twice now but never actually followed through. Well, this year they are definitely returning. They have been redesigned for the third time, now sporting a more "chibi" look.

BlackGuard is still going to be our primary focus, but you can expect to see TGP pages pop up from time to time from now on.

Aight, so this is maaad, late. I was supposed to do a DBZ/BlackGuard
crossover drawing for having reached over 9000 pageviews on
Deviant Art..... but the comic and Onyxcon kept me busy. I had almost
forgotten about the drawing until I heard a DOPE instrumental that
sampled Vegeta's infamous quote, at which I was inspired to finish
the piece.
